Bonn Fest and Klangwelle

I figured I'd make this one about 2 small events, Bonn Fest, which occurred last weekend, and Klangwelle, which has been going on all week. The leaves have begun to change color, and it is definitely colder at night than it's previously been.

Bonn Fest: This festival had a little bit of everything and dominated the city center. There were booths with crafts of every kind. One little nook focused exclusively on Medieval goods. Some of the booths had Provencal soap, others clothing and scarves, jewelry, candy, meats, and cheeses. Choir groups were singing, the bands were trumpeting, and hour after hour different music was being played. There were several carousels in strategic spots. I took an hour or so to walk around, finding my way to Starbucks to get an inaugural pumpkin spice latte to get me into the fall spirit. I would tell you what I got, but then it wouldn't be a holiday secret for some. Short trip to the center, but I was limited by shin splints from the hike the previous day.

Klangwelle: This translates to sound wave, and started in 2005, it's an annual evening spectacle that lasts a week in Munsterplatz that has water, music, flames and fireworks. There is this water display that is similar to the Bellagio (just on a much smaller scale), where lights and images can be projected on the water. The water jets shot out in different patterns and were illuminated by a multitude of colors. This was all coordinated to music, and the square was surrounded by food and beer stands to make it an even better entertainment 'venue.' I was 'lucky' (not), extremely tall people really enjoyed suddenly moving in front of me and blocking my view. One of the few things where being short is a disadvantage. The water show was broken up into segments with the general theme of 'Around the World', and some of the colors blazing through the water were representative of the theme (for example the colors of a country's flag). The themes were as follows: Classical music 'Once Through Europe', 'the Rock and Pop Show', and 'Once on the Rhine'. It was a pretty fun time followed by some beer with friends. All in all a nice way to kick off the holiday the next day, celebrating German Unity, even Google Germany celebrated it in their banner.

Even some pyro!
